Seletar Workers’ Dormitory (un-built)

The Seletar workers’ dormitory is serving as a migrant workers’ onboarding centre. It comprises of 6 blocks of 5-storey living accommodations and 1 block of medical centre. OWAA has been invited to put up a design scheme for a design -and-operate tender by Ministy of Manpower. The key focus of our design is to make use of colours and landscaping to soften and enliven an otherwise monotonous and repetitive workers’ dormitory design. The colours would aid in both wayfinding and also imbuing the compound and each individual dormitory block a stronger sense of identity.

The overall design aims to break down the stigma of a repetitive and utilitarian dormitory design and offer an alternative to how workers’ dormitory can be re-designed and reimagined.
