Outram Hotel – Heritage Boutique Hotel
Location:
261 Outram Road, Singapore
GFA:
Approx. 660m2
Outram Hotel is a 4-storey conservation shophouse with a view of Outram Hill. On behalf of the building owner, OWAA has successfully applied for a change of use from residential units to hotel guestrooms for the shophouse. The scope for OWAA in this project covers both architectural design and interior design as the need for an integrated and coherent design between architecture, conservation and interior design is crucial for a successful boutique hotel design.
OWAA works with the hotel operator to come up with both the design as well as the programming of the premise, to rejuvenate the conservation shophouse. While the 1st to 3rd storeys will be converted into hotel guest rooms, the top level at 4th-storey will be converted into hotel reception and common amenities for the hotel guests offering guests unblocked views of the Outram hill greeneries.
The hotel interior aims to offer guests a modern interior with a subtle touch of tradition through the play of materials, shapes and details. Modern materials are interpreted in traditional ways when metal sheets are bent to form archways.
Modern and traditional materials are brought together to bring textures into the interiors when stainless steel and fluted glass come together in distinctive contrasts of transparency/opacity, smoothness/tactility.
