HHOM @ Short Street – Nurse Co-Living Hostel Interior
OWAA has been invited to participate in a land tender by MOHH, with a co-living consortium to bid for a design-build-operate contract for a nurse hostel. The consortium has been awarded the contract and OWAA has been commissioned to be the architectural, ID and landscape designer as well as to provide QP services for the project.
HHOM @ Short Street involves retrofitting an existing 10-storey school building into a 250-bed hostel building that comes complete with its own communal amenities like social pantry, dining hall, recreational lounges and multi-purpose rooms. An existing open carpark has also been converted into a landscape deck comprising of an open lawn, community garden, fitness park and outdoor dining.
Using bold colours and lush landscaping, OWAA has given the school compound a complete make-over.
The colours are taking reference from the multitude of colours found in the different nurse uniforms in Singapore. This strategy of mixing bold colours with lush landscaping results in vibrant yet calming spaces – a unique identity in the city centre where glass-cladded high-rise towers are packed tightly with sparse landscaping around.
This strategy continues from the outdoors into the interior of the building and the result is a conducive “home” where the nurses find their personal abode and retreat to rest and socialize after work.
