Design Competition for a Light Industrial Building (not awarded)

Location:
Geylang, Singapore

GFA:
Approx. 1,500m2

OWAA has been invited to take part in a design competition for a light industrial building in Geylang, Singapore. The design brief calls for an 8-storey industrial building to be comparable with the adjacent buildings in height. with a roof garden. In addition to the brief requirements, OWAA proposes to do a roof garden with a view of the city, a sky terrace at 2nd storey to mark the building entrance with greenery and a double-storey flagship showroom to create a grand shopfront along the street.

The building is designed to be in a regular shape for an efficient floorplate but to break away from a bulky box, the building form is broken down into 2 interlocking volumes, each with its own material, colour and language.

The interlocking volumes create a slender building form which is accentuated further by the façade design where a series of arches and planters are arranged in a staggered manner to lead the eyes up to the crown.

A main arch is also designed at the ground floor to frame the building entrance and gels the shopfront with rest of the façade.
