The Dance & Movement studio is a 2-storey annex building works that is intended to increase the facilities for dance and movement in the Singapore American School. These new studios is located in an elevated position between the existing pool and a new Memorial Garden, thereby overlooking both these areas.

The Dance & Movement Studio is designed as a pavilion-like building structure that overlooks into the pool and integrates seamlessly with the garden. The design adopts a modern tropical pavilion style with piloti (stilt) columns, façade screens and pitch roof with overhanging roof eaves that would offer the students the experience of an “Arts Pavilion in a Garden”.

The interior space is designed with natural cross ventilation and abundance of daylight where the use of the façade screen could be used for effective control of privacy, daylight and natural ventilation into the dance studios.

The Dance & Movement Studio opens seamlessly into the open space of the Memorial Garden and therefore creating a seamless experience of integrating greenery into Arts spaces. The difference in level between the 2nd storey Dance and Movement Studio with the ground level Memorial Garden are designed with terraces, seats, planters and ramps to create an integrated and seamless experience for the students.

The Memorial Garden is designed with pavilions and seatings within lush greenery to create a “Green Oasis” for social interaction within the school community that could also be an outdoor performance venue for the Performing Arts.
